Why I Got Solar Panels Installed! (Is it worth it in Toronto?)

My family owns a small house in the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, and we recently decided to get solar panels installed. If you want to know the pros and cons of solar installation in Toronto, and whether not it’s worthwhile, here’s why we decided to go ahead with installing solar panels on our roof.

The cons of solar installation are very minimal. It’s a large initial investment and having solar panels adds to the maintenance of your home, but the pros highly outweigh the cons. When we were first seeking out professional solar panel installation Toronto services, my family and I didn’t know just how many wonderful benefits there really are. We talked extensively with the helpful staff at the company I just linked to above, Toronto Solar Power, and they convinced us of getting the service done right away because of the following three major benefits:

  1. Even though Toronto is fairly cloudy during much of the year, the rays that solar panels need to fuel up are able to penetrate through cloud cover making solar energy generation available all year long, even during the harsh Ontario winters. Keep in mind, of course, that more power will be generated when there is less or no cloud cover.
  2. The day you get solar panels installed on your roof the value of your home increases significantly. This is because solar panels raise the value of life for everyone in the home by providing renewable energy, so you can make the fridge run even when the power is out during a storm due to a power bank where the energy is stored.
  3. Solar installation in Toronto is a lot more affordable than people might initially think. We got our solar panels installed for less than $3,000 and Toronto Solar Power also offers life-long maintenance and are always available over the phone if we have questions or need help.

In other words, YES, it is totally worth it to get solar panels installed on your house in Toronto. Just make sure you hire professionals and not amateurs, because this is a lifelong investment and you want the job to be done right.

Another major reason to get solar panels installed is because housing property is so expensive in the greater Toronto area, so by having solar panels homeowners can save more money, to use against their mortgage for example, by lowering the cost of their electricity bill. We’ve only had our solar panels for roughly three months and we noticed a 15% drop in our last electricity bill.

So, if I were you and owned a house in Toronto I would start calling for local solar installers today. It also makes you look cool in the eyes of your neighbors. I recommend Toronto Solar Power, but there are many other great companies in the city to choose from. Start calling around and you’ll get convinced just like I did!

Arguing With Myself On The Toilet

I’ve done a lot in my long life.

I’ve traveled much of the world. I’ve seen things, created things, smelt things, touched things. Yet when I sit on the toilet and contemplate, and I remember the words of wisdom – “Live for the moment” – I can’t help but feel things would be magically different if only my behavior was such and such and like this and that. If only I had more discipline, I tell myself, I could be so much greater.

But is it wrong to be content with little? I argue back and ask if I can’t enjoy my humble life and have faith in a long term goal. Maybe there’s no need to toil and be great if I am happy with my burdens already.

In the solitude, all alone as I listen to the fan above me, I reply: Yeah, boy, but imagine if all your dreams came true. You can do it, but you need to hustle and be uncomfortable. You need to grind and wake up super early every day! You have to smile at the sunrise even when all you want to do is sleep.

My life is already great, I rebuttal. Why be so uncomfortable to fix what is not even broken? I admit all my dreams coming true would be amazing and might make me very happy, but so is the fun process of steadily taking my time without stressing out. Faithfully, step by step, a little bit everyday, I can still be comfortable and have at least some of my dreams come true.

That’s lazyiness.

It’s my right if I don’t want to slave away like everyone else.

But you need to work hard to deserve your place in the world!

I am making my contribution.

Stop arguing to yourself on the toilet!

Getting my car tuned up at the Hamilton auto body shop before Spring

Why should you get your car tuned up before spring? First of all, in the winter there isn’t long lines at the auto body shop, for the most part. That’s usually right before winter. So near the end of winter is prime time, especially if you’re loyal to a auto body shop that gives you seasonal discounts like I do. I also love getting my car tuned up this time of year because I love driving across Ontario, Canada during spring. In 2022 I’ll be kicking off my road trip from Hamilton in my mustang!

Why do I begin my annual road trip at the auto mechanic? Because having a well tuned car makes road trips much smoother. Not just the ride itself. You won’t get hiccups along the way with faulty engine parts! Especially if you bring a back up tire. And, as you know, I like to get my services done by professionals.

winter is ending

My mustang currently needs some tuning up and car paint scratch removal. I like to get my services done at Tip Tip Auto Body. I call them up every few years for auto repair services. I highly recommend them. They’re phone number is 1-647-559-5120 but you can find their shop at 350 Sherman Ave N, Hamilton, ON L8L 6N6. In my opinion, they’re the best auto body shop in Hamilton. My car will be there in a few weeks for due service.

I plan to get rust protection, a chip in my windshield fixed, and a few other small mechanical repairs under the hood. My first destination will be Detroit after spending some time in Windsor. Then I’ll be cruising back up the Province visiting friends before I make camp in Toronto for a few more weeks. Not sure yet but I might even drive all the way across Canada to Victoria BC this year as a special treat but I’ll know when my main spring trip is over.

By far my favorite part of this whole annual tradition of mine though is seeing my freshly detailed car roll out of the mechanic’s garage. With all the car parts sparkly clean and the engine purring like a tiger, my mustang is going to make the ladies turn heads this year.

Let’s hit the road!

how to wake up earlier

Tricks to help you get out of bed earlier

Maybe the best person to tell you tricks on how to get out of bed earlier than you’re body wants to is not someone who has never had a problem with this but rather someone like me who has struggled with it for many years yet has found their own personal solutions. So here, partly to motivate myself for this problem has cropped up in my life again recently, I will share the tricks that have helped me rise out of bed early even when it was so incredibly hard and all I wanted to do was go back to sleep.

Trick #1: Funky, Distance Alarm Clock

This trick only works if you have a playlist of music that makes you want to work and roll! For me, that music is funk and disco, but for you it might be rock or heavy, dark opera. So once you know what songs you’d use, find a way to make them your alarm clock and then put your alarm clock at the far end of the room so that you’re literally forced to get out of bed to turn it off. The effect you hope to have is that by the time you’re standing up to turn off your alarm, you don’t want to go back to bed because the music already has you going and motivated.

This works better, like all the tricks here, if you remind yourself before bed that this is what you’re doing, so that when the moment comes and you’re standing there with your favorite song on in the dark, it’s already too late – there’s no option but to break some funky moves to the disco and get your day started!

Trick #2: A Delayed Coffee Maker

Even if you don’t like coffee, the general concept of this trick can work, so long as you have a favorite morning beverage. For me, that beverage is a steaming hot coffee. And I’m lucky for that because my coffee machine has a “delayed brew” option where, so long as I prep the coffee maker with filter and grain before bed, I can set it to start brewing early in the morning. This works wonders for me because even the smell of coffee gets me going. And so when I’m trying to go back to sleep I can smell the fumes and my mouth starts to water. The excitement of a fresh coffee makes it easier for me to crawl into the kitchen and start my day. If you’re more of a vegetable shake or protein powder kind of person, you can prep these and leave them in the fridge for you to consume in the morning.

Trick #3: Revenge!

This trick is kind of nasty, but it works. Just like how Harry Potter was motivated to do well just to prove Snape wrong, I like to imagine all the people who said I would never amount to anything look shocked when they see how successful I’ve become. By imagining all my doubters being proven wrong, I get a spark of motivation that is powerful enough to get me out of bed. So to make this work for you, try to remember all the people who doubted you and how good it would feel when you get to watch them admit that they were wrong about you. Because you can do this!

The only doubter in this world who really matters is you!

I hope these tricks are helpful for you, and if you enjoyed this content and want to see more of it, feel free to reach out to me and make suggestions.

Bye for now.

professionals

Why I Get My Problems Handled By Professionals…

If you had a giant head-sized hole in your drywall, what would you be more prone to do? Try to fix it yourself with putty and touch up paint or eat the cost of getting professional drywall repair? How you answer that question, assuming you have no idea how to fix large holes in drywall, determines how good the results will be. Me, well, I love good results. I’ve tried to fix giant holes in drywall before, only to my own frustration. When I finally caved in and hired a professional, it was a giant relief, a relief much larger than the hole in the wall itself. This made me think, hmmm, maybe I should hire experts more often instead of do everything myself…

Sure enough, a few weeks pass by and my dish washer breaks down. So what do I do? Firstly I forget my recently-learned wisdom and research how I could fix it myself. Then, once the headache kicks in, I remember, “Oh yeah, I should just hire a professional.”

The following company fixed my dish washer and I’m so glad they did:

Appliance Repair Victoria

2326 Oak Bay Ave, Victoria, BC V8R 1G9

(778) 400-2049

https://www.appliancerepairvictoria.com/

If I hadn’t relied on these experts, my dish washer might still be broken to this day. The fact that I ate the cost to handle my problem properly gives me pried because this means, because I live in a beautiful country (Canada) where experts in every field are always a phone call away, I can handle anything! And I don’t do it alone!

I trust professionals because I’m not one, and I accept that they can do a better job than me and they deserve to get paid for this reason. It’s not every day where problems arise where you need to hire a professional’s help, but when those days do come along I no longer hesitate to ask for proper help. Actually, ever since I started trusting experts and paying for their professional services rather than do everything myself I started handling problems faster and more affordably.

Now, I never have to think twice. To pay a hefty fee and get the problem out of the way is way more attractive than stressing out trying to learn how to do it myself, let alone actually taking the time to do it myself… In other words, I stay cool and don’t stress out, because I can go do my own job and make back the money it costs to let a professional take the stress off my shoulders.

I know not everyone can afford to hire a professional, especially when it comes to something as annoying as having to get your dish washer fixed. You might just be tempted to start washing your dishes by hand. But not me, and I take pride in this. I can’t afford it either, and might even get a loan or a new credit card just to cover the bill. But while you’re washing dishes by hand I already got my problem solved and I’m moving on with my life.

So, with all that said, maybe it’s just a matter of me being lazy. Or, maybe it’s not a bad thing to just let the pros do what they’re best at. Anyway, I hope you learned something from this Myer’s Midway Ramble!

Bye for now.

when to help

Thoughts on Helping Without Being Asked To

To help someone when they ask for it is one thing, but when was the last time you went out of your way to help someone that you knew was to prideful to ask for it even though you knew they needed it. Maybe it was a stranger last week, a loved one today. Whoever it was, do you remember the way it felt inside to look them in the eyes and hear them say “Thank you”? I sure do, which is why, even though it’s so hard, to remind myself to help people whenever I see a chance arise. But, and I know this well, sometimes insisting to help someone who would be better off without your opiniated version of what the best thing for them is worse than just leaving them alone. So before you go to help someone without them asking for it, it’s always best to ask them if they want help first. This is because helping someone behind their back can have negative consequences, especially when you don’t understand the situation they’re in.

These were todays thoughts that I wanted to share. Thanks for listening in and I hope to see you back soon!

how to be cool

The Easiest Way to Be Cool

Do you remember when you were 8 years old and how important it was to be cool. You listened to the latest music, did that thing with your hair and hit puberty wondering if girls thought you were as cool as your friends did. I remember those days all too well and must admit I was a pretty cool kid. When I was 8 years old I had girls fighting over me. Not even joking. They would come to the soccer field stands at lunch to watch me play. I was so cool, still am, in fact. So you can trust that I know the secrets of the easiest way to be cool. Now, I’ll share it with you.

No matter how old you are, the secret to being cool the easy way is to simply have the ability to never get offended and be able to make fun of yourself. It’s that easy. Because, what do you think of people who get angry at friendly mockery? Would you think that someone who can’t handle a joke is cool? I didn’t think so. This is also good wisdom for life in general, to be able to tolerate mockery but never participate in it. The cool kid was never the bully and the nerd at the same time. He was in his own clique, off not caring what people thought of him.

So there you have my secret tip for staying cool and I hope you use it well.

Cheers.

Can You Guess What I Mean?

“Can You Guess What I Mean?” could be the title of all and any of my posts hitherto. What do I really mean by this? What did I really mean by that? Hmmm? Seriously, though, can you guess? Ah, perhaps not because I haven’t really said much yet. Don’t feel bad if you’re confused. I’m trying to be ambiguous. That’s why they call me Midway Myers, I never make it clear, the meaning of my words. And, my hope is that, you, the reader, can have fun deciphering my ramblings. When am serious? When am I just kidding? Consider my rambles like abstract art. perhaps there is no meaning after all, or perhaps you’re free to decide for yourself what everything really means.

Either way, I hope you get a few laughs out of it.
